The first experiments [1] on whether people could taste the difference between different colas were performed in 1948. Four cups of different colas were labeled W, X, Y and Z, and participants were asked if they could guess which brand each of these were. They used Coca Cola, Pepsi-Cola, Royal Crown Cola and the rather unknown Vess Cola.
The participants in the study did not know which brands had been used. Of the 108 participants, some were habitual cola drinkers; others were not.
